After a long, hot day, the only thing that can make things better is a nice cool drink and a dip in the pool. Growing up in an area where the climate was always hot, all our friends had pools and all the resorts had pools. And if we didn't want to go swimming in a pool, we would find ourselves in a river or in the ocean. But mostly it was swimming pools in our own backyards. It was more fun that way. We could dive off our boards, we could bring toys in, we could feel safe, not scaring ourselves to death thinking about sea creatures like eels and sea snakes or when our imagination got the best of us, sharks and stingrays. When we were in pools, you knew there was nothing to be afraid of. And plus we had our parents watching over us. And if the younger kids were annoying us, we could send them to the parents. If we were in the ocean or in the river, the little ones would be clinging to us, screaming, crying, afraid something would pop out and eat us, making us even more freaked out. The end result would be a whole bunch of wailing kids stuck in the ocean.
One friend had a saltwater pool that came directly from the sea in front of us. It filtered in and it cascaded out. Very environmentally friendly. Of course you don't think about that when you are younger, all you think is that your swimming in salt water and your eyes are stinging. Now I see it as not only environmentally friendly, but invigorating and refreshing. It's also nice to know I am not swimming in chemicals and that the saltwater is doing wonders for my skin. Another friend had a fountain in the middle of her pool. One had a slide. That was the best. Another had the best swimming pool toys. And if we didn't have any of that cool stuff, the rest of us would jump from our own roofs into the pool. Totally awesome the time, complete idiocy now that I think about it. I'm suprised none of us have been hurt. As you grow older, you don't swim in pools for fun anymore. You don't have races, you don't play games, you don't play with toys, you don't jump off the roof, you don't run around, you don't dive off the board, you don't have races. You simply go in because your hot and want to feel refreshed, then hop out as quickly as you hop in. Its sad how times change. Some people choose to make a solar pool, a pool that is heated by solar energy.
